Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your Darling & Co mobile grooming appointment.

How does mobile dog grooming work?

We bring our fully equipped mobile grooming salon directly to your home, giving your dog a calm, private and one-to-one grooming experience right outside your door.

All we require is access to a standard UK household electrical socket, which we connect to using our own extension cable.

What do I need to provide?

Very little! We need a safe space to park the grooming van on a flat surface, reasonably close to your property, plus access to a standard UK electrical socket.

Our salon carries its own water supply and all of the equipment and products needed for your dog's groom, so nothing else is required.

Do I need to stay during my dog's groom?

No. Once we've had a quick consultation and your dog is safely with us, you're free to get on with your day. We'll let you know as soon as your dog is ready.

What size category is my dog?

These breed examples can help give you an idea of our general size categories:

Small: Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Toy/Miniature Poodle and small Maltipoo-type breeds.

Medium: Cocker Spaniel, Cockapoo, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, French Bulldog, Miniature Schnauzer and medium doodle-type breeds.

Large: Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Standard Poodle, Labradoodle and Goldendoodle-type breeds.

Extra Large: Newfoundland, Bernese Mountain Dog, St Bernard, Great Pyrenees and other extra-large or giant breeds.

These are examples rather than strict categories. Coat type, condition and the amount of grooming required are also taken into account when pricing.

Why are your prices listed as “from”?

Every dog is different. Your individual price will depend on factors including your dog's size, breed, coat type and condition, temperament, styling requirements and the time needed for their groom.

Your price will always be discussed and confirmed before grooming begins.

What happens if my dog's coat is matted?

Your dog's comfort and welfare always come first. We will not carry out prolonged or painful dematting.

If matting cannot be safely and comfortably brushed out, the kindest option may be to clip the affected coat shorter than originally requested. We'll discuss significant matting with you and may ask you to sign our Matted Coat Consent Form before proceeding.

An additional matting charge of up to £15 may apply where substantially more grooming time or additional work is required.

My dog is nervous or anxious. Can you still groom them?

Absolutely. Our one-to-one environment can be particularly helpful for dogs who find busy salons overwhelming.

We work calmly and at your dog's pace, with their welfare taking priority throughout. Please let us know about any nervousness, triggers or previous grooming experiences when booking.

If continuing a groom would compromise your dog's welfare or safety, we may adapt or stop the groom.

Do you groom puppies?

Yes! Our Puppy Groom provides a gentle introduction to professional grooming and helps your puppy become familiar with the grooming process from an early age.

It includes a bath and blow dry, brush through, nail care, ear cleaning and a light tidy of the face, feet and hygiene areas where appropriate.

How often should my dog be groomed?

This depends on your dog's breed, coat, lifestyle and preferred style. Many dogs requiring regular clipping benefit from a grooming schedule of around 4–8 weeks.

After meeting your dog, we'll be happy to recommend a schedule that suits their individual coat and needs.

Do you take a deposit?

Yes. For new clients, a 20% booking deposit is required to secure your appointment. As a one-to-one mobile grooming service, your appointment time is reserved exclusively for your dog and involves travelling directly to you. The deposit helps protect this time in the event of late cancellations or missed appointments. Your deposit is deducted from the final cost of your groom, so you'll simply pay the remaining balance once your dog's groom is complete.
